'A' Frame Signage Changes PDF Print E-mail

This is your opportunity to make comment and suggestions on a critical business marketing tool many people utilise in Victor Harbor to sell products or services to the wider community.

Moveable signs, which include the traditional ‘A’ Frame sign, are an important part of marketing for any small business. This is certainly the case for any business in Victor Harbor wanting to let any form of passing traffic (foot or otherwise) know where the business can be found and what they have on offer. This type of signage must be effective for any business, including being supportive in promoting the branding of a business (its logos, colours, typeface, images etc) and its message to the customer.

In order to maintain consistency in the presentation of this type of business signage, and to also respect the safety requirements with regard to their placement in a public location, the City of Victor Harbor has a By-law in place that business operators need to abide by. By-law #2 - ‘Moveable Signs’ is made under the Local Government Act, 1999 and provides clear definition of what is compliant and what is non-compliant in relation to a business utilising moveable signs.

Currently the City of Victor Harbor is carrying out a review of their By-laws which includes ‘Moveable Signs’. As part of the review process, council is required to go to public consultation so that the public can provide comment and suggestions in relation to the By-law prior to it being finalised.

At the moment a draft of the proposed new By-law #2 - Moveable Signs is available for comment. If a business utilises a ‘Moveable Sign’ as described within the draft document, then they should be reading this document in full and making any suggestions in a written form so that they may be considered prior to a new By-law being finalised for council approval.

All written comments should be forwarded to the City of Victor Harbor City Manager, Mr Graeme Maxwell, PO Box 11, Victor Harbor SA 5211 before 5.00pm, Thursday 27 August 2009. A copy of this draft By-law is available from the council website (www.victor.sa.gov.au) or from this website CVH By-law #2 Draft.
